MICHAEL KURSCHAT
Bass

Michael Kurschat received his Bachelor of Music degree from The King’s University College in 2000 and a Master of Music degree in choral conducting in 2003 from the University of Alberta.
 
As a solo singer Michael has studied with Elizabeth Raycoft, Jolaine Kerley, Paul Grindlay, Leonard Ratzlaff and Nathaniel Watson and has been heard as a soloist in many of Bach’s cantatas, St. John Passion, B Minor Mass, Handel’s Messiah, Hayden’s Creation, and Vaughn Williams’ Five Mystical Songs with groups including Pro Coro Canada, University of Alberta Concert Choir, i Coristi Chamber Choir, Concordia Community Chorus, Edmonton Youth Choir, University of Alberta Madrigal Singers and Richard Eaton Singers.

He was recently featured as a soloist in an all-German choral concert Bach and Forth under the direction of Jordan Van Biert. On several occasions he has been heard on the CBC Radio 2 program Choral Concert with Pro Coro Canada under the direction of Richard Sparks.

Michael is the founder and director of the male choir Schubert and the Boys. He currently sings with Ensemble de la Rue and Pro Coro Canada.

He is also a happy father of a beautiful fourteen-month-old baby girl named Gabrielle.
