The Christopher Head Chair
Derek Gomez was born and raised in Vancouver. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music where he studied with Vladimir Orloff. Derek performed with the Thunder Bay Symphony and Windsor Symphony before joining the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 1984.
In addition to performing chamber music and playing for film scores and commercials, he has been involved in recordings for CBC, the National Film Board and private studios in Edmonton. He and other members of the Debut String Quartet were Canada’s first finalists in the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
Other interests include computers and running. For many years he took part in the Jasper/Banff Relay. He is an award-winning website designer.
